Companies would start emotionally blackmailing and pressuring people to spend money on Christmas gifts from January 2nd on, if we didn't draw the line somewhere, and "this other big holiday that you're bothering us to commemorate with a big family gathering and an elaborate meal" (and god forbid, not spend less money on, because we just skipped directly to Christmas preparations) made a good line.
