I doubt it. I guess you could sell me on the idea of some of the source material that Carter drew from being generated by the CIA. But there's no clear advantage to the CIA funding a show like the X-Files. And also, in general, the CIA had significantly curtailed dumb useless cowboy stuff like that by the 90s.

I doubt it (it's more CIA bad, FBI good) but it was, like most shows, definitely getting some sketchy funding. See Sarah Z's episode on Buffy's "Beer Bad." And I blame it for propagating a lot of the conspiracy theories that got us to the political place we are today. I don't think Chris Carter knew either.

I think it's fair to say that the "uncanny valley" rationale, specifically, is kind of weak and nonsensical.

I also think it's very reasonable for people to dislike the way that CGI is used in modern TV and film. And to say that dislike of CGI is nothing more than a Trojan horse for bigotry is just downright silly.

The more we get about Celestia and The Heavenly Principles, the less the archons seem like benevolent figures. Non-Abyss traveler fell in with these guys first, and is just ... going along like they're probably the good guys (or pretending to?) until s/he can locate her/his sister.

I will say that I find the recent narrative slant on forbidden knowledge extremely unconvincing. "The Red King brought truth that was not meant for this world and everyone started going crazy until he and this god sealed it up, in a grand gesture of self-sacrifice" just ... I know of truths that are unfortunate for some interested party or elite or ideology, but the idea that truth itself can be the enemy of life or sanity is total gibberish to me.

It gives me so much joy seeing the Aunt Lydia and Serena Joy haters being proven wrong.

They remind me a lot of how the Regina Mills, Dave Karofsky and Kylo Ren haters were so insistent that their characters were beyond redemption, like the writers weren’t telegraphing the opposite from the start.
