I don't agree with him on several issues but for a comedian he's still done more for the American people than probably everyone else in this thread, who's happy to sit around "cringing" and doing nothing.

I'm curious what prompted you to say, "he's still done more for the American people than probably everyone else in this thread, who's happy to sit around "cringing" and doing nothing."

Jon Stewart actually engages in political activism, and I'm not talking about his Daily Show days. His tenacity when it came to veteran advocacy is honestly astounding because it seems oftentimes nobody in this country gives a shit about that issue, least of all the people in government.

Because he actually speaks his mind on the record, I can look to things like https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnbc-opinion/jon-stewart-leisli-rutledge-interview-win-trans-americans-n1299558 to know where he stands on trans issues and so understand that his stance on people like Chapelle is probably more nuanced. Doesn't mean I'm going to watch any Chapelle material or not call him a transphobe whenever I want, but Stewart is allowed his choices too.

Check out the PACT Act, and the 9/11 first responders bill.

AYRT

I was aware of that. What I was hoping to get clarity on was the insinuated assumption that no one in the thread does any sort of civic-minded work.

Most people can barely be counted on to vote, let alone have that much impact. I mean, show me the bill you helped pass, I'll wait.

Do local recommendations count? If so, here's one example:

I also work in elections to ensure voting materials and ballots are properly recorded and stored. I have seen and engaged with civic engagement beyond voting and passing legislation. I also recognize that even doing this much (or little, depending on your point of view) can be fairly time intensive work.

So...because of that he gets a pass? How much leeway does he get? Can he kill puppies?
