I remember when it happened and everyone at the time thinking it was an accident. But I just looked up an article and apparently there are actual good reasons to believe it may not have been. I guess I've been out of the loop on that one.

(Not a big Robert Wagner fan personally, anyway.)

You're probably right. :-/

He looks a lot like Chris Pine in that photo. Maybe you could transfer your affection to the far superior (by default by not being a murderer) Mr Pine?

These two theories will never die out.
I was eight and a half when she died.

I'm not sure if he murdered her or not, but I do believe he had more to do with her death than he's said. But that means that if he didn't actually kill her, something about it makes him bad enough that he won't speak up about it. And since society does seem more accepting of killing in the heat of passion than something that might be called depraved indifference, that seems like a possibility.

I've always kind of figured that he saw/heard her in trouble and was so wasted at the time that he either ignored it or panicked and did everything wrong. Either that, or he and Walken were fooling around when it happened.

I can see something like... heated argument, pushing her and she hits her head and/or falls overboard and he walks away. The whole thing just seems suspicious, yeah.

Yeah I've always assumed that her death was accidental in that she fell overboard without assistance, but I also don't think she would have been so bombed/impaired if things had been going well with Wags.

I know almost nothing about old Hollywood actors, but my god they were beautiful. Also, I feel like I would find that picture eerie even if I didn't know she died under suspicious circumstances. Maybe because of his big, possessive hand in the foreground, or maybe simply because they're so beautiful that it feels like there must have been some kind of darkness under that immaculate surface.

Natalie Wood was a child actor with a classic stage mother and had a pretty shitty life because of that.

I have always believed that Walken and Wagner each thought the other had done it and thus, kept quiet, but it was the captain of the boat that actually did it. For anyone who sees this late...
