(Anonymous) 2022-12-03 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)although IMO even from that point of view, it's not 100% clear, bc the earliest mentions of the figure are from Welsh sources sure, but the actual matter of the Arthur mythos doesn't necessarily come from those sources. it comes from later writers expanding on those references - and those later writers weren't really Welsh. but, still, the ultimate source of those myths is definitely Welsh.

(Anonymous) 2022-12-04 07:13 am (UTC)(link)Although even calling him Scottish is a bit of a misnomer, since the poem is in Old Welsh from the 7th-9thC, although suspected to be a translation of a much earlier work circa 4-6thC, but about a Kingdom of Brythonic peoples who predated all the current Kingdoms and Principalities of the UK, and mere happened to overlay part of the UK that is currently South East Scotland.
