It's true but it's also true that the modern-day Welsh (as well as the modern-day Cornish) are more or less the descendants of the Britons from the west and southwest part of Britain, no?

So are the English. They're still tied genetically to the islands people. Just as most conquered nations they mixed a little, but not enough. This article explains why they're as much Britons as the Welsh.
