But there were multiple artists working on Sandman? I mean, my fave takes were by Michael Zulli and Charles Vess, which takes don't much resemble Sam Keith's.

And per Gaiman, every single person/being sees Morpheus and the other Endless as different people, and I feel like creating consistent characters was more important in a live action adaptation.

I'm sad that the design work on the show wasn't more ornate and fantastical, but the costume and scene design budgets for Netflix shows tend to be loose change and pocket lint.

And overall I think the acting ranged from amazing (Death, Dream, the Corinthian, Lucifer) to solid (most of the cast) with only one "you act like you do a lot of toothpaste commercials" (Lyta.) And I'd much rather they nailed the acting than the visuals, especially since the visuals varied widely over the course of the series.

Also curious what about the comics made you uncomfortable. I love them, but ngl they're not an easy read for me. Mostly because (massive spoiler warning)

SERIOUSLY SPOILERS

The whole thing is the story of the title character's setting in motion his own suicide and then following through.

Kieth was the original. I once watched an interview or a panel or something in which Kieth said basically he felt he didn't do much and Gaiman said he gave Morpheus his iconic look and it was really sweet and stuck with me.

I dunno why Sandman didn't click for me. I read Death: the Time of Your Life, and High Cost of Living, and one where a witch lady nails a face to a wall, and "Terry the Pterodactyl says it's time to slit our wrists kids!" and it just made me feel gross, and the Death stuff whiny and twee.
