Re: How are people feeling about AI bots and AO3?
(Anonymous) 2022-12-04 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)And there are a lot of problems with this logic: the idea that there is objectively good art as well as the fact that the program can learn the soulless cold technique but it can't have the same intent, for starters. So it's a question for philosophy of art going beyond employment issues (which are also very important).
Of course there is a lot of potential in AI art - say, it's probably easier to make anime by using AI art instead of drawing frame by frame and have "QUALITY" frames happen because you're short in time and money you know. So that's a win. ... But even so you have to admit that AI art can only be so original since it works with numerical algorithms, and the QUALITY jokes will be lost forever. Which is why artists are pissed off - first, the take that "it's better, period" literally means "we never cared for your creative output, we only care about technique and the robot's is better than yours". Second, because SO MANY HARMFUL THINGS have been done by technology before (from bioterrorism and engineering to mass destruction bombs to whatever) but the field of ethics makes it so that the use of technology isn't limitless but no one seems to care about imposing limits to AI art - why? because artistic work has always been devalued in society.
