It doesn't seem to be AO3 whining about it; the people who run the site haven't made any sort of statement about it yet. It's fic writers who are upset.

I agree with you, though. It's a bit rich to get upset that your inherently derivative work may be used to create other derivative work (not that it necessarily will be. ASAIK, the bot is scraping data for a writing assistant to be used by humans, not a full-fledged story-generating AI).
