If HaruMichi were cousins, antis would call it problematic and proshippers would call them racist for saying that because cousins dating is normal in Japan (spoilers: it is not)

AYRT - Possibly, yeah. But I compared it to HaruMichi because back then I don't recall anyone saying "eww I don't ship HaruMichi because they're COUSINS IN THE ADAPTATION". Fans would say "oh, that's censorship then? Fine so I will ship them as intended". People are out there saying it's "wrong" to ship Kaeluc because "they are brothers in the English version" when the original version says they are "sworn brothers" much like a lot of BL works do to get past Chinese censorship issues. Sigh.

But that's only the tip of the iceberg (really I Have Seen Some Shit.jpg) though I do stand by the notion that, regardless of whether it's "racist" (one of those serious words that kids have been throwing around like it's nothing like pedophile and so on) some kids are really stuck up in their middle class Western views of the world and can't accept that some kids can be raised by families that are not their own and not be "siblings" but rather "childhood friends" . Not just in China (no idea if it happens in China at all really) but just uh in poor local neighborhoods even.

Proshippers would possibly call them racist if in this hypothetical case, antics kept talking over Japanese fans who told them "they're not cousins in the original language, that's YOUR censorship", not because cousins dating is allegedly normal in Japan (which... It's not normal but it's legal, like in many, many western countries too).
