Anyone else writing anything currently or planning on it or have any writing things you want to talk about?

I really want to write. My fandom is doing a Valentines slashy swap which I just discovered. I've signed up.

I think I'm also going to pull up my various half-finished fics this weekend and try to do some more writing on one or more of them.

I have 3 WIPs atm that I'm finding it hard to make time to work on. So I've mainly been plotting them out in my head.

I'm debating buying myself a cheap laptop or desktop so I can write fic on something other than my ancient dying phone. I told myself I could only justify a new computer if I went to grad school, but in practice that's meant using my phone for pretty much everything for the last six years.

A couple weeks ago, I emailed myself the ridiculous note I'd been writing all the fic for my newest fandom into and pasted it into a word document on a library computer.

It was over 40 single-spaced pages long. It's grown a lot since then.

Rewriting and editing it is a pain in the ass, and I keep worrying I'll accidentally select and delete big chunks of fic and not notice until it's too late.

But it's still a dumb reason to buy a whole new computer, even a cheap one. (My most recent computer is old enough to vote.)

Maybe I should set more realistic goals for myself than grad school. Like if I buy a computer just for word-processing, I actually have to post fic on my Ao3 account instead of only anon on kinkmemes. Especially since even my kinkmeme fills are gen.

Well, I support you buying a cheap laptop because writing will be easier, plus you might be able to use it watch streaming TV/ YouTube/ whatever as well. Plus, a lot of life admin stuff is often easier on a computer vs a mobile (as in filling in forms etc).

BUT if you don't want to do that, and your phone has bluetooth, you may be interested in buying a cheap bluetooth enabled keyboard. That way you can still write fic on your notes app, and still not have to lug a laptop around, but have the ease of writing with a keyboard instead of on your phone's touch screen. And that's an outlay of like $30 vs a few hundred.

I also recommend using your Google drive pages app to write. You do need internet connectivity to access and save changes to your document, but it allows you to format in a much easier way than your notes app. Plus you can do word counts/ page counts etc. So a much smaller chance of deleting big chunks of your fic!

I don’t think that’s a dumb reason to buy a new computer. If you can afford it, I say go for it. I once bought a new keyboard just because it was pretty and made this awesome clickety-clack sound when typing.

I decided to do a NaNo project over last month and this month. It's been really tough, partly because my husband getting COVID over Halloween weekend kinda screwed up my November.

Sorry about your husband. I hope he's doing better. And I hope you do get the writing done you want to.

I'm writing my Yuletide fanfic exchange fic and the deadline is ten days away. I'm almost done but it will need extensive beta work so I've promised myself to finish tomorrow night. I'm not allowed to reveal my assignment but I love it and I hope I've done justice to it. I also wrote a "treat" but those are also secret until author reveals. It's the first time I've written in a very long time.

Meanwhile I came across and old fanfic I wrote - Alucard/Integra in Hellsing. And my reaction was "I wrote this? What the hell?" I remember writing it! I just don't remember it being quite that ... lurid. It's kind of of embarrassing.

And by "lurid" I mean... smutty and cheesy. But it was fairly popular at the time. Heh.

Well, I've ranted about it before, having a bunch of fics I've been working on for years and wishing I could finish or at least make progress. No change at the moment.

....So just after cour 2 of season 2 of Tiger & Bunny dropped, I wrote what was going to be some self-indulgent hurt/comfort based on the ending of episode 20 because all my fellow Yuri stans were like "SOMEONE GET IN THERE AND PICK HIM UP AND HUG HIM" - and well, I've been shipping this ship for ten years. So I wrote a few thousand words, and "I have some ideas for other things I might do with this scenario to take it through episode 25 and all that happened there, maybe."

I just uploaded chapter 15 of that story, it's at 88k words in less than two months, and it has SUBPLOTS involving other characters that I have to resolve.

I am having such a great time with it (and apparently others are too!) but also I have no idea how this happened or what I'm doing, lol.

I kind of feel bad for neglecting my main OTP though. I haven't written anything for them in two months. They're still hanging around, to be sure - I did just buy that ring for them - just this monstrosity has eaten my brain, and it's actually got readers.

Hah, thanks. I can't really speak to the quality of the thing, of course. I did no advance planning and am honestly shocked it still hasn't collapsed into incoherence.

I’m writing a short story for school for the first time since starting uni last year and it’s a nightmare. I just cannot get the story out. I miss no pressure writing, just letting the story out naturally and if it doesn’t come then it’s no matter.

I signed up for a fic gift exchange and I have no idea what to write for my giftee. I have their list of preferred tropes and it’s nothing complicated, but my mind’s a total blank.

I have like 4 requested fics to take care of but I've been preoccupied by 3(ish) original ideas I have instead. A lot of writing getting done, but no fic is near complete >-

I'm drowning in frustration at the moment. I get twenty minutes before bed each night to write, and every night I'm so tired I can't even get a word out.

I've been developing a novel for about a year. Finally I started doing the actual writing just recently.

I was also working on a Detroit Become Human fic but ended up abandoning it because I didn't know how to continue the premise. I'll probably just make it into a oneshot.

Hmm... a lot of planning but no writing.

4 ship manifestos that have remained unorganized for 1-5 years each. And some fic drafts in the middle of them. Trying to work on these. And let's not get into the rest.
