I feel like a large part of that is the fact that US and Asian drama models are totally different? Like, Asian dramas all tend to be designed with a set number of seasons in mind at the outset, and they go through their story and then they're done. US dramas are designed to try to milk as many seasons out of them as possible so they don't usually have a self-contained story, it's left open so the show writers can keep tacking on more and more seasons if they want.

So I feel like US showmakers don't usually go searching for things like webcomics and novels to make shows out of for the most part because that doesn't fit with the model they're after, if that makes any sense.
