Haven't watched season 3 of cobra Kai either, but I think the issue is when female characters of colour are only allowed to be a certain stereotype and not a fleshed out character with good and bad sides/traits to them.

I suppose they took one of the few women of colour and made her into one of those stereotypes since female Asian poc seem to have certain roles as their main character points.

Subservient wife/love interest to the main character, tiger mom esque villain who likes to downtrod their children, or bad ass villain woman who is skilled with martial arts while being seductive.

It's gotten a lot better now, since there's a lot more diverse casting and roles, - shang chi/turning red, but I can see it being a total slap in the face to see it being written in a modern show that's been for the most part, good at illustrating harmful stereotypes (toxic masculinity, parental abuse cycles etc)

This, and also the classical Dragon Lady trope is extremely Orientalist and exoticizing in how the character is depicted. That's bad, but it's also fundamentally a problem that more or less does not exist in Asian media for an Asian market, just by definition.

I also haven't seen Cobra Kai so I can't say whether that's true of this character!

It exists in Japanese depictions of Chinese women.
