Inspired by today's Secret #7.

On a deeply basic level my favorite thing about christmas is the food. This contemplates the permission to day drink too. My least favorite things about western Christmas are the consumerism and the inevitable family fighting that rises each year in my household of origin lol. Last year I spent it away from the country I was raised in and it was way better.

Favorite: anything and everything gingerbread.
Least favorite: getting older sucks as friends and family start dying off and there's less and less people each year to spend Christmas with.

hate: the commercialism and how I can’t go into a store without Christmas music being blasted at me, how people think it’s just Jesus’ birthday when he (if he existed) was born in April and it was really just an excuse for the Catholic Church to conflate all the saint days in December into one feast

All the this.

Favorite things: snowman decor, having tons of creative energy (I blame this on all the pergormances I had due to band and handbell choir involvement)

Least favorite things: the ardent religious folks trying to state their is only one reason for the season, taking down the tree

I find it tiresome to have to deal with Christmas at all. I like fandomsecrets. I don't like repetitive seasonal talk. (And this is not a complaint about your asking - it's just something that grates on me when I'm living in majority-Christian countries.)

Favorite: The generosity the season is supposed to inspire, Christmas trees.
Least favorite: very few people continue to keep the Christmas spirit going year-round.

The cranking up of Social Obligations to a sometimes insane degree. And if you've been spending the year running on fumes (financially and/or physically), getting hit by a huge round of But Thou Must Or You Will Hurt People's Feelings turns into... hell.

Carol singing is nice?

Favorite: christmas episodes. Whether it's a TV show, podcast, youtube channel - I just really like it when something dips into Christmas just because it's the season.

Least favorite: ....my family, esp my extended family. Between the passive-aggressive grandparents who disapprove of EVERYONE'S life choices, the druggie uncle, the born-again Christian side of my family, my dad and his control freak tendencies that REALLY come out around the holidays - look, at this point Christmas Eve at my grandparents' place is a fucking minefield I dread navigating. Plus my most dramatic sister just got divorced so, uh, this year is gonna be a mess tbh

Love: the food and the time off work

Hate: the music and how it starts playing EVERYWHERE RIGHT AFTER HALLOWEEN OMG STOP. IT.

Favorite: Time off work, the food, Christmas specials, seeing everyone's faces on Christmas morning when they open the gifts I got them

Least Favorite: Seeing Christmas stuff pop up before Halloween

Favorites: food, partying, getting together with friends, most of the music, giving and getting presents, decorations, a lot of the movies and TV shows (I just finished watching the Albert Finney Scrooge which is one of my favorites)
Un-favorites: Mean fundies, some of the music, people being greedy, the BAD movies and TV shows and people acting condescending about the mythology

favorite: staying home & playing with gifts, the aesthetic of lights in the dark, cozyness, sweets, The Muppets Christmas Carol

least fav:
the consumerism, the "you Must Go Visit Relatives A,B,C on Christmas bc you dont visit them enough" guilt tripping, faking to get along with everyone in order to get gifts, the expectations, the "aw you must be soooo lonely having no Partner/kids/family" assholes, the expectation of working the holidays bc of "you have no Partner/kids/family", the rush / pressure to get everyone gifts, the expectation to go to church, the donation drives that prey on peoples generosity during this time
