I have a really neat copy of Anne of Green Gables with some fantastic color plates.
I've always loved the illustrations in Winnie the Pooh.

Monstrous Bebe had several books as a kid with beautiful illustrations which, of course, right now I can't think of the name of.... One was based on Chinese folktales, and each page opened outward like a fan, to show a scene inside.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark are terribly wonderful.

Also the Jan Brett's Christmas stories are gorgeous. I bought the collection because I loved them so much as a kid.

A Little Princess and the Secret Garden. Illustrated versions of Tolkien's works. The illustrated versions of Earthsea. Where the Wild Things Are. The Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series. How to Be a Good Creature. Polar Express.

Funnily enough, my mother found a children's book just today that fits the bill: How The Avocet Got Its Name! I'm not sure how easy it is to find outside the UK, tho.

The Oz books, I mean there is prettier art out there but I really do love the way everything is drawn so fluttery, drapey, and floaty - clothes, hair, really long ribbons tied around Toto's collar, etc.

I had a third or fourth hand Mother Goose collection from the 60s that was amazing. I loved the Richard Scarry books, too. I also still have three books from my childhood in the early 80s that had fab illustrations: Higglety Pigglety Pop! or There Must Be More to Life by Maurice Sendak, a hard bound Velveteen Rabbit (with dust jacket! My first!) and Dragolin by Stephen Cosgrove.
And the illustrations in Shel Silverstein’s poetry collections were amazing. My brother had A Light in the Attic and I had Where the Sidewalk Ends. I’ll never forget the illustration of the towering trash that Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout wouldn’t take out.

Make Way for Ducklings was a formative part of my childhood, so I have to nominate it.

Other than that, I enjoy anything Lisbeth Zwerger illustrates, although The Gift of the Magi is maybe the work of hers I enjoy the most.

I am visiting my sister. We are going to bake some stuff and I also need to do some last minute Christmas shopping.

What recent things are you really proud of? What have you accomplished recently?



I asked for a raise today for the first time. Was super nervous and had been putting it off. But it went actually far better than I feared, and I will be getting a raise in the new year.
