Re: If you had the power, what platform would you choose for your fandom to move to (and why)?

ngl I miss the mid-2000s fan groups on deviantart.
However, since its a living dumpster fire mess of AI and NFTs - I wouldn't want to move (or more like revive) the fandoms there now.

I think Dreamwidth would work if we had an image hosting service. A good chunk of Livejournal essentially had photobucket right up until they tried to start charging to use their hosting. I know there's Imgur, but that comes with limitations.
Still, even without the image hosting - I do prefer the layouts here and I don't want to return to livejournal (not that I can since my account has long since been deleted).

I'm seeing a lot of people sort of daisy-chaining Dreamwidth and the AO3 together because the latter has better functionality for fanfic. Prompt post here, link to the fill there. For example.

I was just wondering if people could do that with DeviantArt and Dreamwidth for images. Because it kind of kills me how many things have disappeared as Photobucket deletes shit and breaks links, and other image hosting places do the exact same thing. And, like ... I could go deep-diving back through old computers and resurrect old avatar sets I made, and upload them to new picture sites, and repost them on the anime-manga comm and a few other places, and hope the links don't break again. But I get the impression that if I could have just put that stuff on DeviantArt and directed people to it, it would be right where I put it up in the first place, all these many years later. Because for all the people ragging on the place and calling it terrible, the stuff I took the trouble to upload there still exists online. Without any further fiddling or maintenance on my part.
