If you had the power, what platform would you choose for your fandom to move to (and why)?

Inspired by today's Secret #7.

Neocities because I want to relive the 90s-00s

Seconded, but I wish I was better at finding relevant things over there.

And also, why do those pages never come up in search engine results? I found out through cheapskate's guide to the internet that Neocities exists, but if I were relying on what people say elsewhere I probably still wouldn't know that Geocities had been resurrected, in any form.)

Apparently it's because they're subdomains and because of that Google doesn't favor them.

It was because of FS I found neocities (I got online at the tail end of geocities and angel fire) so whenever I need that internet nostalgia and justbwant to feel some inspiration, I check it out and am always tempted to make a page. Non fandom related. Just a space online for me. So thanks, anon who mentioned neocities a few months ago.

I want viable and popular webrings that land on personal homepages/fan shrines but I guess Dreamwidth would be alright from a casual blogging standpoint.

Twitter but not run by an incompetent maniac

Honestly I don't think there's any one current platform that I love, so I would invent a new one

Both my current fandoms are on Tumblr and honestly it's been working out great for me so far, I don't want them to move anywhere. In fact I devoutly hope that the twitter side of one of them (the one that's a band) stays on twitter and doesn't move over to tumblr, because as dramatic/weird about the band members as some of the tumblr fans are, the ones on twitter seem to be WAY worse.

I'd love for Livejournal to be it, but, y'know. It'd have to be the LJ of 15-20 years ago, so that ain't happening. I just want to be able to discuss stuff with folks and not feel like I'm drowning in overbloated discord/Twitch chats, or so disconnected in other places where I can't find another fan of the same thing I like.

I wouldn't. The Tolkien fandom is best on Tumblr. I love my fandom the way it is.

A Tumblr with a functional search feature and also something that lets you have long, LJ/DWish, readable threads on your own page that aren't reblogged around.

ngl I miss the mid-2000s fan groups on deviantart.
However, since its a living dumpster fire mess of AI and NFTs - I wouldn't want to move (or more like revive) the fandoms there now.

I think Dreamwidth would work if we had an image hosting service. A good chunk of Livejournal essentially had photobucket right up until they tried to start charging to use their hosting. I know there's Imgur, but that comes with limitations.
Still, even without the image hosting - I do prefer the layouts here and I don't want to return to livejournal (not that I can since my account has long since been deleted).

I'm seeing a lot of people sort of daisy-chaining Dreamwidth and the AO3 together because the latter has better functionality for fanfic. Prompt post here, link to the fill there. For example.

I was just wondering if people could do that with DeviantArt and Dreamwidth for images. Because it kind of kills me how many things have disappeared as Photobucket deletes shit and breaks links, and other image hosting places do the exact same thing. And, like ... I could go deep-diving back through old computers and resurrect old avatar sets I made, and upload them to new picture sites, and repost them on the anime-manga comm and a few other places, and hope the links don't break again. But I get the impression that if I could have just put that stuff on DeviantArt and directed people to it, it would be right where I put it up in the first place, all these many years later. Because for all the people ragging on the place and calling it terrible, the stuff I took the trouble to upload there still exists online. Without any further fiddling or maintenance on my part.

Old LJ
Also there was this fandom site in my native language that was Elon Musked on a small level and I miss it sometimes

I was trying to imagine my ideal fandom platform, and it's basically: Tumblr but if they got rid of their notes-reblogging structure and had comment sections on posts instead

Livejournal as it was in the 00's. Man I miss that place.

Either livejournal, or a newsgroup.
