It can be not intentionally malicious and still be racist. Also, context is such a heavy thing. No one should be asking a pregnant woman what color her kids will be because a) it can't be changed anyway and b) it carries social repercussions in a way other things that could be speculated about (such as eye color) does not.

Like, being clueless/not thinking doesn't excuse racism. If something is stated thoughtlessly, it means you apologize and do better in the future. If it keeps happening, it means you have a problem. And there is a goddamn tapestry of context to this that makes it a problem.

I imagine most mixed-race families wonder how the kids will turn out. Hell, even non-mixed ones wonder who the kid will take after most. Not racist at all.
