feels like a "pox on both their houses" type situation to me

Is it really that shocking that a kids movie, from very popular franchise, would do well over a darker movie that isn't going to sell well to kids?

It's not in the mood for grimdark bullshite? I mean, I don't want to see any of these movies, but I'd choose minions and Gru over fucking BATMAN or Dr. Strange any day.

I don't know that people going after lighthearted fun is the doom cry for humanity that you seem to think it is, anon

I enjoyed it.

I love The Batman (2nd favorite cimena Batman only after Mark of the Phantasm).

I'm not surprised it didn't break the bank.

Fingers crossed that Gru and the Minions beat out every MCU film they can. I can't win but you can still lose and all that.

I mean, who's going to the cinema right now? Young teens and kids. So a sequel kids' movie is going to do great. I don't think this is a big deal at all. Also, Doctor Strange was terrible, and I don't really see much bad about people ignoring it.

All of this!

A society that isn't in the mood for darkness in fiction right now?

(Anonymous) 2022-12-27 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
A society that’s become oversaturated with and thus tired of superhero mmovies.

The Minions movie is PG where the other two are PG-13. It's the fifth theatrical release for the franchise where Dr. Strange is twenty-eighth for the MCU. The Batman has the sixth live-action Batman since 1989 (of ten movies, I think). It doesn't seem that surprising.
