Movie: I loved a bunch, but I finally saw Black Panther 2, and it is absolutely my favorite movie of the year.

tv: Right now Andor, though Obi-Wan came very close. Rings of Power is also on the list but not quite the top. But Willow is really good so far, and it may end up beating out Andor.

Album: I admit it, I love Midnights. Anti-Hero has been played on repeat so many times. That song is scarily accurate for how I feel about myself.

Best character (returning): Obi-Wan always wins this. Mon Mothma and Andor are close second and third.

Best character (new take on old one): Number One, with Christopher Pike a close second.

Best new character: Luthen Rael and basically all the new villains of Andor.

Personally I like the Trek approach. Then again, also like the Star Wars approach. In both cases there is something for everyone, but you can also skip what you aren't interested in.

I'm just going to say that my defensiveness about the word 'relatability' came mostly from the comments above your own. F!s is not immune to people being snippy and condescending on it, and now that we got trolls back, I've been on guard about it.

i think the reels/tiktoks are super cringe too, but i also fully support people making money off others in any way they way to, as long as they feel comfortable, which is why most of these people make tiktoks in cosplays to begin with.

A pretty straightforward solution could be to have those characters come from a particular cultural microcosm that is generally evil, does evil things, and has evil values. You don't have to say "all of this race is evil," you can say "the particular group of this race that this character is from, believes they are evil and evil is great/praiseworthy/respectable/the only way to survive."

The result is the same: a story about a character who rebels against what they were told all their lives and truly believed were innate traits, which turned out were traits that could be overcome (or at least handled and dealt with) even if habit and worldviews are hard to change.

It achieves the same emotional beats and actually makes more sense that way than The Special Exception somehow rebelling against traits we're supposed to believe were "innate" that applies to entire races.
