Thanks for making my secret, secret-maker!!

While we are at it, HOW ARE WE FEELING TODAY, CLACK ENDGAME THEORY NONBELIEVERS (or rather since 2 days ago)? - https://mobile.twitter.com/finalfantasyvii/status/1606673804943454208

I think the biggest thing that the remake is going to do is cement story beats and relationships in a way the original canon didn’t, which is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way. I played in 97 and always thought cloti was canon, but to me the story left it open enough that my interpretation wasn’t the only valid way to read things. I think it was Nojima who said that he was afraid remake was going to make certain things less ambiguous and people were going to realize their interpretations were wrong. I’m not sure what they have planned and I didn’t fully love remake (super special Aerith and Sephiroth and their knowledge of the story really tested my patience lol), but I’m willing to go along with them for now.

Clack supremacy though. I’m a cloti fan, but if clack happened I wouldn’t be mad at it.

Yes, possibly. The thing about Remake is that it's more a sequel than a remake though. Personally I never felt anything for Sephiroth before, other than "damn bitch killed my gal :(" at least, but Remake made me feel things and I am actually excited for his plot. On the other hand Aerith feels less.. earthly (pun not intended) and it's ironic that both FFVIIR and CC failed to do justice to her OG portrayal. Therefore, when I think about it as another spin-off it's entertaining enough to me but- a replacement? Nah.

But when I heard about this "someone is going to be mad" I thought, well, lets hope they anger the psycho shippers and homophobic dudebros then lol. Man I had totally forgotten how bad the Cloti and Clerith psycho shippers are since I was only following multishippers.

AYRT

I loved CC Aerith. That’s what won me over on her. She had the same mischievous nature to me but was less pushy. I haven’t had a chance to play the remaster so I don’t know if that will hold up though. Remake Jessie feels like OG Aerith to me so post OG Aerith has always been a win in my book and I’m annoyed Jessie will likely be showing up again. (Except ACC. Everyone sucked in ACC. I hate everything about that movie except Denzel and how hot everyone was).

The shippers are wild. I hang in a very quiet corner of the cloti fandom where we’re like “clotis and cleriths who pretend the other side has nothing going for it have a biiiig storm coming probably.” Though I do think the Zack factor is the big unknown and his potential survival could definitely shake the ships up. Because truly, Zack/Aerith is juggernaut ff7 ship imo.

Aw. Different strokes really, but it's SO hard to find female characters who are actually independent and self-motivated (plus, "older" and fun-loving but not in a "useless drunk MILF slacker" way) that I seldom like female characters at all, so she felt like a breath of fresh air to young me and it's sad that she STILL does. While doing my research I saw this: https://www.reddit.com/r/FinalFantasyVII/comments/qvfy9a/them_aeris_in_ff7_is_so_sweet_gentle_and_innocent which reminded me exactly why I love OG Aerith so much but also what makes her OG character so difficult to redo tastefully. Come to think of it maybe yes, something about new Jessie is similar (I like her).

The worst shippers are scary. Not only for being weirdly blind to other ships, but also because they seem to mix up stuff like accusations of pedophilia with ship wars. Get your priorities straight??? I (don't do het shipping often actually - I did say I don't care for fem characters often and only ship characters I like ...) have never been in a fandom with shippers so voracious and it's scary and sad to me. Disliking a ship is different from not acknowledging realities and attacking those who do and that goes for both sides.

Truly everyone was hot in the movie haha. Gbye Reno tiddies

Yeah but Zack/Aerith was barely a thing in OG - the only cutscenes of Zack we got there were of... Zack and Cloud (and Tifa and Sephiroth once). It became an important ship in CC but frankly, even compilation wise, if society wasn't heteronormative "should Zack be with Cloud or Aerith?" might be the discussion lol. ("Do you have a minute to listen to the word of Clack?") And I love looking at every possibility instead of narrowing it down to a silly binary "ship war" and it IS kind of sad to me that this is the current state of affairs in the fandom. Sigh.

What game are you playing? She willingly got into the hot red dress and fucking worked it.

I say this as someone gay, too: you're seriously coping RE: Clack in a way that feels... Almost fetishistic? That feels like the wrong word, but it feels icky.

How is that related to her characterization, though? Personally I felt she was less "earthly" more Mary Sue-ish perhaps even because of, as another anon said, the "she knew everything all along" narrative. Of course she's always been a Cetra and special in that way but she felt very believably human the first time around, despite not being (much like yknow, Red and such) and that quality seems to have gone away a bit.

In what way, anon? Honestly I have always liked Clack but only recently have come to realize how the original text is ambiguous enough to make it an actual possibility not just a gimmick. In light of its era (FFVII was released 2 years after NGE after all) maybe it was somewhat intentional. The original text (which I hadn't checked much until recently, and only ever did thanks to that series of Youtube videos revisiting the original text) was a lot more ambiguous, compared to the English translation, when it came to words such as "girlfriend" or "ladies' man" so it caught my attention. Not that I actually believe my crack theory, but it would be nice. So it would be nice to know why I sounded fetichistic in your opinion.

I've always found the ship war annoying, because Cloti and Clerith do both have something to them. And really, Cloud can be in love with both of them, at the same time! It happens! And also, logically, I don't feel like Cloti being canon even negates Clerith - Cloud is much more likely to be in a relationship with a woman who is still alive? That doesn't have to mean he never loved Aerith, and frankly the idea that he loved Aerith does not have to mean *anything* about his relationship with Tifa.

I'm not a Clack shipper (I don't really care about Zack at all), but if it comes with canon Aerti, I am fully on board.

My thoughts exactly, anon. There are many interpretations and it's much more interesting (and "realistic") this way. I like Clack, but I like Aerti too and yeah, both. Both is good!
