Yeah, as a cosplayer this is exactly what I was thinking. I don't really care what some specific random person thinks of what I'm doing. I make a lot of people happy and have made some awesome friends through this hobby, as well as learning various skills (some more useful than others, admittedly).

So if some other person thinks cosplay is cringe? Okay, that's their right. Just as long as they're not harassing anyone for it. There are a lot of harmless things I can't stand too, and I just don't engage when I come across it. :P

AYRT Admittedly, a big reason why I don't enjoy seeing cosplay is that there's a lot of people who get off bodyshaming cosplayers and I don't want to see that either.

Ugh. I don't doubt it happens in some spaces (since bodyshaming happens basically everywhere, and I imagine all the more so in a hobby that invites "comparison to the source material"), but mostly the spaces I stick to are just like... me and my friends cosplaying together and lifting each other up and encouraging each other, and attending meet-ups at cons where everyone's a fan of [thing] and we're all just really happy to share in the love of [thing] regardless of skill level or physical resemblance. I suppose if I didn't have those circles to just have a good positive time in, and I was seeing it in the context of judgy people, I might dislike seeing it too. :P
