I don't think that's really true about Star Trek?

They had two shows running simultaneously for most of the 90s plus movies and had to hold all of that together in continuity.

Maybe were defining things differently but I don't see how that isn't a coherent interconnected universe.

(While were on the subject, what is Star Trek doing now that's not that? Genuinely curious since I haven't been watching.)

I would take "coherent interconnected universe" to mean that, like, the interconnections matter to the story - that knowing the details of the interconnections is important for making sense of what is happening in the individual installments.

That's not really the case in TNG/DS9/VOY - for the most part, they stand alone on their own two feet. There are a few characters who show up in both shows, and a few crossovers here and there, and obviously they're all in the same setting. But DS9 is largely self-contained as a narrative. So is TNG, so is Voyager.

Whereas something like Andor, a huge part of what's going on in the story and how we make sense of the story has to do with the characters' and the storyline's relation to the larger Star Wars franchise.

(I also have not watched the new ST shows so I can't really say what they're doing lol)
