This. I don't know this fandom at all, but it seems like almost everywhere there's this obsession with "proving" a ship is going to be canon, and I sort of get it but not really. For me, half the fun of fanworks is the "what if." As in, "this didn't happen in canon BUT WHAT IF IT DID?" That's where the best creativity is, IMO, so why care about what ships are canon so much that you harass people over it? Ship whatever moves you and don't be afraid to be weird and don't stress out about canon so much.

It's always been there sadly, it's just for years it was more of a het-fandom thing because theoretically outside of the most out-there ships any het ship had a 'chance' of being canon, and this would make those fandoms fucking awful to exist in. It's just now an everywhere fandom thing and I hate it because I know when I'm shipping something that isn't going to be canon, or meant to be, and trying to navigate around the very loud and insistent shippers is a goddamn chore. Especially when they're wrong, fucking hell they get worse when the ship gets jossed.
