Sometimes the best way to enjoy things is to ignore the fandom entirely. That's what I had to do to enjoy Doctor Who again.

Well, I mean, sometimes the best way to enjoy a thing is not get into the fandom or to even know what others think of it. You focus on what you like and not get consumed by what others think.

As a highly anxious person, I think this is a reason as to why I don't really watch things that everyone else watches anymore. Maybe it's been a subconscious thing? I want to enjoy the thing as it is, I can often lose sight of that because I want to enjoy the fandom so much that if my friends begin to complain about the show or if I personally nitpick the show I just begin to feel a lot of negativity manifesting and it's about the bitch sessions more than the content in itself.

Like, I was REALLY into Star Wars, but all the back and forth on Last Jedi wore me out so I didn't even watch Rise of Skywalker (the bad reviews made it easier to nope out of the fandom LOL). If I give any more Star Wars content my time I don't think I'll join in any fandom stuff outside of passive fic reading or watching a few video essays/reviews on YT.

Just remind yourself that the world would totally suck if we all liked the same things. There is something out there for everyone and if you like something that’s a GOOD thing! You don’t have to like or dislike anything based on what others think. And you don’t have to feel wrong/guilty/ashamed for liking a piece of entertainment that someone else doesn’t.
Give yourself a break and just enjoy what you enjoy :D

Well...

A plate of fish-fingers heated up from frozen can be a satisfying and comforting meal. It's warm, filling, and has no surprises.

It's not going to be the same experience as a curry that took three hours to cook with layers of spices cooked into the fat so the burn goes for days and tender meat, and vegetables cooked just so.

Some people are going to feel strongly about one or the other, and some people are gonna like both (though maybe on different days).

The fish-fingers are not less satisfying because they are uncomplicated. The curry is not bad because it can scorch the tongue of the unwary. I could say that, objectively speaking, the curry has better production values, craft, skill, care whatever, but... sometimes someone just wants to eat fish-fingers.

And you're really not wrong for wanting one or the other, OP. I promise.

(Though god, I feel you for liking the unpopular thing. It can be very isolating.)

I ignore the fandom entirely if it is something I think I'd be touchy about. Some shows I'm fine with people ripping into and judging (and sometimes I'm judgey as hell myself) and other things I just... I enjoy by myself without input. Because I don't want to hear anyone else's opinions on it.

TBH I do love a lot of crap, and sometimes the fact that everyone else hates it is a good sign to me that something isn't as good as I think it is. It doesn't mean I can't still enjoy it but, yeah.

I accidentally did this to my friend when I explained why I would not be watching anymore Jurassic World movies. I pointed out all the things I hated about Jurassic World - tropes and stupid things that you find in a lot of movies that I thought were lazy writing and I was sick of them. She told me a few months later that after that conversation she started to see them everywhere, too, and now couldn't enjoy movies she thought she would normally enjoy. Oops.

It happens to me, but usually if I hear it from someone I like especially. Reading how bad [show I like] from a person on my curated timeline can make me quite sad.

Sometimes it makes me dislike a person though and I don't know if it's better. I had a mutual subscriber who was often enough critical of things I like to the point of my frustration. And I think the last straw for me was when they had written positive things about Split, how awesome this movie is. I've hated this movie with a passion and with words "bitch go to hell and you said my thing was overrated" I've unsubscribed. I feel it was extremely petty, but whatever, life is short

Two characters have a strong feeling about each other? Of course people are going to ship it. But I hear you on the looking for "clues" in canon thing, that's annoying.

I'm pretty much with you on this op! Another thing I would criticize is that the characters are a bit annoying and talk too much and a few jokes, even the not poop and sex ones, fall flat. But the overall idea is cool, it's visually nice and I heard the gameplay is good.
