Well...

A plate of fish-fingers heated up from frozen can be a satisfying and comforting meal. It's warm, filling, and has no surprises.

It's not going to be the same experience as a curry that took three hours to cook with layers of spices cooked into the fat so the burn goes for days and tender meat, and vegetables cooked just so.

Some people are going to feel strongly about one or the other, and some people are gonna like both (though maybe on different days).

The fish-fingers are not less satisfying because they are uncomplicated. The curry is not bad because it can scorch the tongue of the unwary. I could say that, objectively speaking, the curry has better production values, craft, skill, care whatever, but... sometimes someone just wants to eat fish-fingers.

And you're really not wrong for wanting one or the other, OP. I promise.

(Though god, I feel you for liking the unpopular thing. It can be very isolating.)

An excellent analogy, well done.

I've seen a lot of chatter lately about bringing back reminders that like/dislike should not be treated as value judgments on either the thing or the person, and it's true. Normalize "I don't like it and that's just me and it's fine."

Thank you. That makes so much sense.
