I think one thing the Tumblr post mentioned was that the sister in the commercial was originally supposed to be way younger, like actually a little kid, so her sticking the bow on her brother was just supposed to be cute and innocent, then they cast someone older instead. And since that's the sort of thing I would have done to my family as a kid, it just sorta came off as a "hey remember when we used to do this stuff?" throwback to me...
So it could just be the additional context that makes it seem totally innocent to me. Shrug.

Enjoy, I guess?

I can't stop thinking it now when I see it though.

(Anonymous) 2022-12-30 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)XD Duuuude, we need to get together and just gab about everyone's initial impression with this commercial. The first few times I watched it, I passively thought, "cute coffee commercial about a couple" and then maybe the fourth or fifth time I finally caught the commercial from beginning to end and was like, "HOLY SHIT THEY'RE SIBLINGS?!" Laughed at myself for being dumb. Thought I was alone in snickering to myself about how the actors for this innocent Folgers commercial had such good chemistry I mistook them for a couple. Until years later and likely Buzzfeed had a full ass article about the cult status of this infamous commercial.
