His book really turned people against him.

Though I did end up liking Perry less, I did appreciate how honest and unflattering his book was. He seemed to lay his faults on the table, and I respect that. It reminded me of Carrie Fisher's semi-autobiographies, only I loved her even more after I read them.

I mean when you openly wish death on Keanu Reeves, that's gonna happen

Drug addicts and alcoholics do and say stupid things. None of this is new to anyone.

Apparently it was, considering the backlash he got for wishing death on Keanu. As a former addict, that’s not excusable with “addicts say dumb things sometimes”. He’s said this now, when he’s recovered. Not when he was still in the throws of his addictions. He needs to be held accountable for his current words and actions.

nayrt - and it's not like it was an impulsive, off the cuff remark. This was written and went through multiple revisions (presumably) with more than one person before it got printed and distributed.

I figured Perry was trying to be edgy/clever and failed hard. It was a stupid thing to say.

He was trying to be flip.

(Anonymous) 2022-12-31 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
And there’s limits to that in polite society when it comes to wishing death on someone so openly.

Being flip isn’t a good defense against what he said. It was obvious he was being flippant but that doesn’t mean that it’s okay. You’re so off base.

ayrt
It's "throes".

(Anonymous) 2022-12-31 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a typo made by my phone that I didn’t catch, but okay.

Da

Why did you feel the need to correct their spelling instead of actually addressing any of their points? It was likely they just made a mistake or it messed up by technology and not them. So it makes you look like a snob by correcting them when there was no point because you knew what they mean. And it was a one letter difference. And you ignored everything else. Probably because you had no arguments. So you just hoped that correcting spelling would make you look good. Because you couldn’t defend against any of the people who exposed your argument as flimsy and wrong.

Just because something is commonplace doesn't mean it's not irritating or that people won't/shouldn't get upset about it.

I still like him. Unsure why, just always have and guess at this point I always will. Maybe it is a kind of pity - there's just always been an air of sadness (hurt?) he carries around with him.

I always got an asshole vibe off him, and to a lesser extent, Chandler. I never liked either one.

He still has my sympathy tbh. Addiction is a horrible curse. As someone with a totally different physical struggle, I can understand looking back with resentment at how much harder things were. Sounds like he's being very upfront and honest.

I’ll still always like Chandler. And the version of Perry I thought I knew(to the extent a non-celebrity can know a celebrity), and used to like. To a lesser extent.
