...I don't understand the flood of "omg abuse" comments here. OP never defined "hitting."

So, question for OP-- are you referring to just, like, hitting someone in a joking manner to make a point without actually meaning to do harm, or actually purposely inflicting pain?

I can certainly see where people would think it could be abusive, but on the other hand? My friends and I "hit" each other playfully all the time and it doesn't actually mean anything. Secret makes it unclear as to which of the two this is referring to.

Well, if you think she's just trying to joke around, it's always possible that she simply doesn't realize she's hitting harder than she should. I used to try that kind of thing sometimes when I was younger (and more into anime, incidentally...), but I had a tendency to underestimate myself, cause I'm small and scrawny and I kind of grew up with the idea that I can't do any damage to anyone. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure it was a lot less funny than I'd thought it would be.

Then again, I did that at least once in my pre-anime days when I was even younger, and cocked it up worse by apparently not quite realizing that you're not supposed to actually hit people full force when you're joking. ...Not my smoothest move, I've always felt bad about that.

All that said, if she does know she's hurting you and keeps doing it, then yeah, that's still messed up. Even if she doesn't mean anything by it, she shouldn't treat it as a normal way to interact with someone, you know?

Okay, so I'm over here rolling my eyes at the people shouting "abuse!" because, uh, I kind of *am* that friend sometimes. But if she's hitting so hard she actually *bruises* you? She's doing it wrong.
