That sounds frustrating, OP.

Do you think identifying what it is about Noragami that excites you so much is world help? You might be able to search for content like it that you could enjoy without getting hyperfixated.

OH this is me with Evangelion. Last month I decided that I wanted to watch the new movies and it's been a month in which I reread the manga two times, rewatched the entire original series, replayed two eva games and read every kawoshin fanfic and doujinshi I could find (THERE IS A LOT).

I'm sorry you have this problem, too. I hope you have as much fun as I do, at least.

I have a similar hyperfixation problem too. I pretty much never truly move on from or lose interest in most of the things I hyperfixate on completely, I’m just am not as into it for awhile as I was. And then I pick it back up months to years later, sometimes out of nowhere. And then that’s pretty much all I think about for a couple of weeks. Rinse, repeat. I’ve always found it exhausting. When it was a character and not just a whole show, I would sometimes think “is this what love feels like? I kinda hate it”. When I was a kid I would even call it “lovesickness”, because I would be so into something and love it so much that I got a kind of unpleasant sick feeling to go with the giddy happy feelings.

I feel like I've dealt with this in the past. Just fixate on a character or media for a good while, and then drop it. So maybe not to the same extent. I will say, I never finished Noragami manga because I didn't want it to endddddd

Especially since they never gave a season 2 on the anime and the author was sick for a minute (hope they're doing better). Shout-out to the anon that introduced me to that manga on FS!

Did it end already? I didn't catch that. Admittedly, I stopped reading it in 2020, around the time the creator took a break, and didn't get back into it since, but still I heard nothing about it ending.

Funny how different we are, though, because I could never fixate on Noragami for too long as it seemed as if it would never end, and I really wanted to see things resolved.

AYRT

Tbf, I'm not 100% sure that it's over over, but at the time I was reading it, there were only a few chapters left, so I stopped. I've gone back, and it seems the creator is back to writing, as I saw more chapters available. And just checked the wiki seems like it's still ongoing!

Yeah, that is curious! It's more if I can see the end coming, and I really enjoyed it, I want to postpone the end. Especially if it's something I'm not going to turn to fic/fandom for, if that makes sense. I like the idea of the story not ending. But it's also the disappointment that can accompany a WIP. Because if they never finish it, I'm stuck wherever they leave it. I currently have Noragami on "pause", if you will. I think I'm waiting for an official conclusion, then I can enjoy that. Soemtimes I don't mind finishing if there's an actual ending.

This is me with X-Men but I really enjoy it. I have different ships each time and there’s always loads of canon to catch up on. I cherry pick from the canon and adaptations and so do most fan content creators so it means I get this huge fandom experience that mixes and matches stuff and it’s a wild ride!

Happens to me too, except my hyperfixation lasts until I find something else to hyperfixate on. Could be weeks, could be months, could be a year.

I've discovered a longer lasting hyperfixation is easier for me, because the obsession runs in the background automatically while I perform other tasks. Like leaving a game on pause.
