I've baked my own bread and it was fun and not hard but pretty time-consuming. Don't do it on a day when you have a lot of other stuff to do.

That last bit is a good tip! I only got a little into bread baking, and even the less labor intense recipes call for a lot of time. Stopped baking as my hobby due to time and space constraints in my current living conditions.
