Even for a short book, they still had to chop too much out. And WTF was going on with the Piper character? That was not book accurate even in the slightest, that not only contradicted the book but was so obviously pulled out from deep within some scriptwriter's ass.

I did like that one bust in "Boss Man's" office though, you know the one.

It's funny you say that, because it's just reminded me of how much Pterry's meta humor kinda reminds me of the meta tongue in cheek humor of the book version of The Princess Bride. Which makes me suspect that at least some discworld stories could be great movies, but only if made by someone willing to fully shift the genre to be about 40% more earnest and let the movie be its own thing. Which is neither what fans want nor what's in fashion in hollywood these days.

Yeah I think you *could* do a good version of Wyrd Sisters and/or Lords and Ladies but you'd have to do radical surgery on it to get it to the screen

I would LOVE to see a 'Lords and Ladies' done accurate to the book in lore and whatnot - I think it would be amazing.

Yeah, I think Wyrd Sisters would adapt really well. (I thought it was the best of the set of audio-dramas that came out lately.)

It was done as a cartoon in the nineties.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-02 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually disagree, because the 90s cartoon versions of Soul Music and Weird Sisters were both spot on.

Seconded on Soul Music. The music itself creates a meta that fits the story perfectly, and which wouldn't have been possible with just the book.

some books don't translate well to movies.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-03 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
True, I actually think the book of Pterry's that is most page-to-screen relatable is probably Equal Rites or Pyramids, just because they are the least meta of his works.

IMO any of the Watch books are totally filmable, the only problem is that they build on each other so much that you'd have to do them all in order, and Guards Guards is probably the weakest

I think The Watch series is probably off the table for the forseeable future, thanks to that godawful version they just tried.

The Watch wasn't half bad.

And Hogfather is amazing.

That literal shit-show was all the way through bad and out the other side.

All this does is confirm you have awful taste. Yeeeesh.
dantesspirit: (HAHAHA No.)

No, just different tastes than you.
