Maybe it's less about the awful manager disliking "Butter" specifically, but rather more about being the kind of person who asks someone what they're listening to, then promptly insults the person's musical taste and believes this is a socially acceptable thing to do?

Please tell like everyone this. I was teased in school for liking the same popular ass pop music everyone else liked, so I now dread having to tell anyone that I like the same sugar pop fluff. Sure, I’ve developed a taste for some alternative stuff, but I prefer my fluff, and I get high school flashbacks every thing I have to admit that I’ve bought a Britney album past 2003.

NAYRT - This is what I got from the secret as well.

I kind of know how OP feels. I remember going into a small specialty fragrance shop and the shop owner asked me what my favorite fragrances were. I listed a few, mostly fairly classic ones. Her response was to tell me that designer fragrances are poor quality and watered down, and that niche fragrances were superior for that reason. I instantly realized I had no desire to ever buy from her shop. Who the hell asks you to tell them about your likes and then responds by insulting your taste?

At least I didn't have to work with that lady, though. OP, you have my sympathies. :/

Reminds me of mentioning how I dislike Coldplay in conversation with two girls who loved them... and... Instantly makes me feel awful, esp w friends, so I usually add that I at least like 2 of their songs to offset the faux-pas in case they take it seriously.. cuz it always sucks a bit to hear someone dislikes something u like!!!! even if they're not doing it to intentionally be mean or whatever~

With a manager tho what an asshat you're not even friends that's super unprofessional right off the bat esp since they asked YOU in the first place, Yeesh, good canary in the coal mine dog whistle indeed

That was my takeaway and like OP I think people who do that are trash and absolutely unsuited to management positions.
