Hmm, maybe in that version, IDK.

All I know is Darcy totally earned his rejection in the BBC version. Most ladies I know wouldn't be all "oh you think I am tolerable except for my crude family? SO ROMANTIC, LET'S GET MARRIED" you know? So I am on Elizabeth's side for that one. Anyway it all works out in the end :)

No, that's Darcy that says that. In the book, too, if I remember rightly. He goes on about the inferiority of her birth and the crudeness of her family and blahblahblah about why he's tried to deny his attraction to her and ends with "But unfortunately, I love you anyway, so let's get married."

Collins uses the word 'tolerable' to describe her, but he never says anything about how her family is crude and horrible or anything.

Technically though, Mr. Collins fawned over Lady Catherine. Around when she said it, didn't he send a letter to Elizabeth telling her to stay away from Darcy? Or does this event not make it into the movies?

Personally I think Elizabeth was quite right to turn down a proposal from a man who just wanted to marry *someone* and had his eye on her older sister first.

Although Tom Hollander did manage the feat of making me feel sorry for Mr Collins when all of the Bennet girls laughed at him after he was turned down.

LOL This happened to me once, I'm not kidding.

A guy saw my older sister's friendster and said he wanted to hook up with her, but she said that she's already had a boyfriend, and that dude simply asked if she had a sister who would hook up with him.

Needless to say, I laughed and gave him the boot.

Yeah, definitely Mr. Collins. Although when I saw the movie, I did think they looked way too similar. Think about it this way, he has an expression like a puppy and a weasel. Any good portrayal of Darcy would never have that expression while someone could see him: he keeps his emotions far too close.
