I'm torn on this, actually, because of the time period this was set in, and as someone else mentioned, she could have been the one to save her family from destitution by accepting. But she did have a lot of sisters who were bound to get married.

I won't say "you missed the point of the book" because sometimes you just disagree with the point of a book, and I can understand that. Personally, though, Mr. Collins gives me the heebie jeebies, and I would have probably not been able to go through with marrying him.

Also, Collins was first set on Jane, but since it looked like she was going to marry the incredibly wealthy Mr. Bingley he was told to give that path up. So Jane was going to save the family anyway, and Elizabeth had a little more freedom to choose.
