WHAT? Did the newer movie version make him too nice or something?! The BBC version and the book version (and heck, even the Bride and Prejudice version) is CLEARLY very skeevy at best and kinda a scumbag at worst. (Not as bad as Wickam, but...well. It's hard to be THAT bad.)

I do think the new movie made Collins a lot more relatable. He's still appalling, but with a certain kicked-puppy appeal. I think it's a very good take on the character actually. Elizabeth's dismissal of him as 'ridiculous' sums him up. He's still utterly obnoxious, but not in the slithering way that Collins is in the Beeb's version. More socially inept, less overtly creepy, equally pompous and embarrassing - alas that they cut out his scene after Lydia's elopement.
