(Anonymous) 2023-01-06 02:26 am (UTC)(link)But that's just the truth about why it happens in most fandoms. It sounds like this one has a fanbase that genuinely likes the ship, but in most cases if there's an F/F ship featuring a character whose canon love interest is part of a popular M/M ship, the F/F ship exists to get her out of the way and all the fic and art are generic, empty softness.

(Anonymous) 2023-01-06 03:34 am (UTC)(link)But, in this case, Nancy isn't in the way. As of the season 4 finale, she's still with Jonathan. Sure, there was some teasing of Nancy and Steve still having feelings for each other during the season, but they are not together. In order to have Nancy and Robin together, writers either have to break up Nancy and Jonathan and figure out how to deal with Robin's feelings for Vickie (it's hinted in the finale that Vickie may return Robin's feelings, but Robin's feelings for Vickie are fully acknowledged throughout the season) or they have to ignore them. A Steve/Eddie writer doesn't have to do anything with Nancy for Steve and Eddie to get together. I guess if they wanted to make it absolutely clear that Steve and Nancy are never, ever, ever getting back together, they could make her a lesbian that just figured it out, instead of bisexual.
