Ah ok, I've read the book too fortunately so now I know what you mean! My issue with the book wasn't the nature of the ending as such more that I was expecting the house as a haunted entity to feature a lot more than it did and the ending came up fairly abruptly. Overall good book though and rightly considered a great within the haunted house genre!

I really liked the abruptness of the ending. It feels like we're really drawn in tight on Eleanor, feeling her becoming more haunted and feeling this horrifying spell being woven around her, and then suddenly we pull back out to reality - it's like coming to yourself in the middle of a nightmare. It's very effective IMO.
