It's not confirmed yet what happened to him in the Light World he's just hiding he's just hiding he's just hiding

but yes, the apparent linear structure of the game means it has to account for both possibilities one way or another.

I really hope not. I hope his death is like, just something that changes the route.... Yeah, I guess you're right. :(

Possiblities that spring to mind:

* Someone else replaces him in anything plot-important he does (allows for any amount of Berdly presence in future chapters, but nothing can be too particular to Berdly, flattening out his character)
* He appears only in non-plot-important capacities (sadge)
* The entire story changes depending on whether you went Weird or Normal (sounds like a lot of doing; maybe if there's only one Weird route and you have to follow it the whole game, but even that...)
* He's not actually dead enough to prevent him from doing whatever he does in future chapters (??????)

The entire story changes in Undertale if you do genocide instead of pacifist. I don't see why Deltarune couldn't do the same, especially since Toby has a full team working with him now. He was incredibly finicky with consequences in Undertale and has shown the same attention to detail in Deltarune so far.

It seems very unlike Toby Fox to spend that much time on one character that he's clearly fond of and then flippantly kill him off with no long-lasting consequences. He said there was only going to be one ending, but that doesn't mean the ways to get there aren't going to be wildly different.
