I hate Andor, because it wants to be Game of Thrones IN SPACE. I am not here for Game of Thrones. I didn't even like original Game of Thrones as a fantasy show, but at least GoT is its own thing and can be what it wants. Andor has the Star Wars banner on it, and is not its own thing. If you want nihilistic space operas that can be Game of Douchebags In Space, it should be its own new property, not hijacking a previous one.

Collapsing "something is depressing or dark" and "something is trying to be Game of Thrones" is incredibly silly and pointless analysis. Just ridiculous. Game of Thrones does many things other than being dark and depressing, of which Andor (so far as I can tell from the limited bits of it I've seen) isn't really trying to imitate. And contrarily, there are a wide swath of things that are dark or depressing outside of Game Of Thrones.

Andor is also about the bullshit depressing political posturing, which is also so very much Game of Thrones.

You mean casual rape? I assume Andor is saving that for S2.

I noped out of GOT after S1 and whenever I checked back in during later seasons, nothing I saw made me what to keep watching. By contrast, I love Andor and IMO it is a very different show from GOT. I would never even think to compare the two.

I strongly disagree with your take that Andor is nihilistic. IMO that's a pretty substantial misunderstanding of the narrative. I also think calling the characters douchebags is an extremely ungenerous perspective. Very few of the characters in Andor are douchebags. Many of them are riddled with extremely human flaws that can be quite unflattering to witness in action, but their motivations feel real and complex, which makes most of them sympathetic to varying degrees. They are often misguided and morally compromised, sometimes cowardly, but almost never wholly unsympathetic. And IMO the narrative does a great job of balancing grim brutality with an underlying tenderness for the humanity of its characters.

If I had to compare it to another show, I might compare it to BSG. I'd rather not, because I don't think the comparison is particularly apt, but BSG is the most similar show I can think of in terms of tone, texture, and some of the themes.

SA - Upon reflection, I'd actually liken Andor to Man In The High Castle more than anything.

Oh, I think I am going to watch Andor, I hate SW universe and it's bullshit frankly, and Andor seems like something watchable at least.
Also I really don't know about this show, but not everything darker and edgier is trying to be GoT. It's not the first show taking this approach and not the last
