The thing people get wrong about WH40k is that you are not supposed to be taking the grimdark seriously, it is OTT for a reason, it is to make you notice the absurdity of the setting. 40k is deliberately a parody of the trend of escalating warfare and horror settings, and not to be taken seriously. You just have to look at the early editions of the games to see that. It is the darkest of comedies, but comedy nonetheless.
