I’m also curious about this. Both female-to-male and male-to-female are weirdly hard to find on AO3.

Female-to-male tf is the hardest thing in the world to find, it feels like. Meanwhile, I can trip over freshly produced male-to-female tf works on deviantart any day. Though admittedly I have yet to look up male-to-female works on AO3. I think the issue I've had with AO3 is that when I search for ftm transformation fic, I only get mundane/realistic ftm people who are already transitioned in a realistic manner.

In general, I think AO3 doesn’t know what to do with transformation. Extreme TF fetish and getting a tattoo are both “body modification” tag.

Sometimes I get mini fantasies where some grand fandom accord is held where all fandom would get together and clearly allocate specific tags to use so people looking for certain things can find them more easily. I feel like age-regression anon from a while ago would certainly benefit as well. Body modification is such a vague term.
