I recently tried to read A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara, but gave up in the middle of the story.
Not because it was too depressing or too graphic like almost everyone online say, but because it was just like reading a well written tropey hurt/comfort fanfiction.
It's utterly ridiculous and I laughed a little too much in very uncomfortable parts.
I'm now utterly convinced that regularly reading 50.000+ words non-con hurt/comfort whump fics has permanently ruined my ability to enjoy published authors that takes themselves too seriously and I think that's for the best.

B!S: reading/watching some interviews about this book made me dislike the author a lot. She didn't do her research and it shows.
