West Side Story is my favorite version of Romeo and Juliet, followed by Baz Luhrmann's version.
It's a secret 'cause apparently it's blasphemy for Shakespeare nerds who don't dislike R&J (I love it, for heaven's sake, and NOT because it's a melodramatic young lurrrrve tragedy) to like anything better than Franco Zeferelli's version. =P
Not people specifically (well, one or two), but so many people kiss their fandom BNFs asses that it's a truly pathetic sight.
Related tangent: And god forbid you have a dissenting opinion from them; you're ostracized from that fandom. "HOW COULD YOU DISAGREE WITH MEEE" and then 20 of their 'friends' appear from nowhere to complain about someone not agreeing with the herd.
Try thinking for yourselves instead of sucking up to some asshole on the internet, shitdicks.
Fandom's obsession with yaoi and slash annoys me SFM. Viewing gay men as pretty boys having buttsecks so that desperate losers glued to their computer screen can mutually get themselves off is degradading. And there is nothing in the world that will ever convince me that people who cannot enjoy any form of mainstream entertainment without turning every single male friendship or bond into "ZOMG OTP 4EVA!!!!" are not all fat, bored, middle-aged women who aren't getting any (and possibly never have).
Oh yeah, and slash isn't more edgy or subversive or intellectual than het. Since it all comes down to porn, let's stop pretending we're actually giving this some thought.
Okay, so I know that the S/P fandom is supposed to be great and everything? But they kind of piss me off. It feels like half of them popped over from the Zutara fandom, so they've got their 'we're totally gonna be canon' delusions being brought over. And they take it so seriously.
I ship it too, but half the posts are 'people are saying we're crazy, let's argue with them!' I want fic and art and glee, not canon-validity debating.
Especially when it's exactly the same argument every time oh god you guys enough is enough.
The Zutara "WE MUST PREEMPTIVE STRIKE ANYONE WHO DARES OPPOSE US" bitches are almost as annoying as the Heath Ledger "I NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE TDK BUT I'D SO HIT THAT AS THE JOKER OH WAIT RORSCHACH WATCHMEN FTW" bitches.
I start to hate anything with that flighty mob mentality. I don't even hate Zutara that much, but when I hate the fans, they go "OMG U DONT UNDERSTAND BITCH WE'RE NOT ALL CRAZY"
I'm sorry, S/P fandom, that you must deal with them now. m(_ _)m
My best friend hates RPF/RPS but I love writing it. I have a bunch written but I'm afraid if she saw me posting it, she would never speak to me again. Maybe I should get an account at Dreamwidth and post it there.
I don't read or write fanfic (not much, anyway, and especially not publically), I don't make icons or fanart, I don't do meta posts or lead discussions and I'm not majorly involved in any fandom-related communites. YET I consider myself part of fandom. Am I alone in this?
Seeing all the "I wish I was BNF" posts made me think of one thing: Why? And how would one even go about that? It's not like there's some special BNF juju to drink or is there?
I hate that people judge BNFs by their simpering fans. It's not like they asked for them. Unless they purposely do gather their own fans, in which case they're attention whores
IKR? I became a BNF in a smallish fandom kind of by accident and the fawning is really uncomfortable, especially because I am generally not as involved in the socializing aspects of fandom.
How do you know someone is white on the internet? Or female? I mean I know most fic and wank is created by girls, but really, we're not all crazy, that's just how we go when we go crazy, you know?
I. Hate. Non-canon. Not because I am homophobic, or it conflicts with my OTP or I am closed minded or some bullshit. I don't care who you ship, what fandom, whatever. I don't care if you write shitty time-warp AU self-insert noncon BDSM incest furry fic with Angela Lansbury.
It's just that for most of the non-canon pairings (there are exceptions) in order to have your crazy slash ship work, everyone has to be completely out of character. Because there is no way that ____, an innocent high school student, would suddenly have an insatiable desire to hook up with your Mary Sue, or their mortal enemy, or a bear. And that is why "TT___TT where's the fandom? every1 h8s my ot3"
It just shows that you don't understand the character, or you watched the show with your eyes closed.
omg, like fanfic writers just throw characters together without any build up or anything-- oh wait.
tired of canon purists wanking about how they know canon better than anyone who dares write anything other than what the producers/writer/author dictates. THEY KNOW. Jesus fucking Christ.
