A sort of vent

(Anonymous) 2023-01-21 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not an angry rant or dealing with something upsetting vent, it's an "I want to tell someone and I have nobody else" vent. Posting as second comment because it's kind of long.

I just did something I'm really scared to do: I sent a celebrity a fan letter. It doesn't help that it's so hard to find official addresses for some people and I have to gamble with what Google gives me. I really hope he gets it and likes it. I put my return address on, just in case, which is the part that scares me the most.

The best case scenario: he'll write me a reply to tell me it's the best thing he's ever gotten and that he was having a bad day but I cheered him up, or something like that.
The most likely scenario: it will get lost among the 5,000 other letters he'll get that day, either literally (he never even sees it) or figuratively (he reads it but finds it totally forgettable), and I'll never hear about this again. Or the address will turn out not to be legitimate and it will end up in a dead letter dump somewhere.
The worst case scenario: the letter will end up in someone else's possession somehow, and they'll post it online to mock me, complete with my name and address.

you're wayyyy overthinking it my dude (gender neutral), tons of other people send fan letters to celebrities and do those get routinely posted online with name and address to mock them? they do not. it's highly unlikely that anyone else will get possession of this letter, and even if they did, unless you're also famous, or the letter contains some extremely out-there insane shit, no one will have enough motivation to post a random person's fan letter online to doxx and make fun of them. you're gonna be fine. chill

by "extremely out-there shit" I mean, like, insane tinhattery or super obnoxious demands or stuff like that. not normal "I love u" or "you are sooo cool" or "your work means so much to me" type stuff.

Dw, if you get doxxed we will start a campaign to vilify the doxxer and when that goes inevitably viral your fave will no doubt personally reach out.

So, at age fifty, I sent my first fan letter to an older writer, and i got a chatty email back within 24 hours thanking me. The worst part of this experience is that there was a question in that email, and I have had analysis paralysis about whether to reply or not. It was a great experience!

Sorry to piggyback, but I have my own vent. The hospital that my brother-in-law has been in has been a complete clusterfuck. I would not send my worst enemy to Baylor, Scott, and White. From there being a hole in the wall of a room on the infectious disease (including COVID) floor to now them forgetting to get the prescriptions and authorizations ready for the day they were intending to discharge him, they have been genuinely terrible all around.

Oh, and when I went to visit him yesterday, the door from the stairwell onto the floor wasn't guarded, and the nursing station was a ways away where they couldn't see the door. And it wasn't locked. WTF?

No need to be sorry, and yikes. 😣

Wait, is that like... a common thing or something? Because I had a family member who ended up being in the hospital for a while last year and I definitely don't remember that being a thing there.

I have no idea if it is common. Every other Dallas hospital I've been to has doors where you need to be buzzed in by staff in order to get in.

I'm so sorry to hear what you and your family went through. It's already stressful to have a family member sick, shitty hospital care is terrible added stress you don't need. I hope he's home and safe with family now. 💕
