As a Brit I was too, OP. It's just such a crying shame on so many levels. Zero surprise that they were dysfunctional- I mean who wouldn't be in that set up? But I really hoped that William and Harry could pull it into the new millennium.

The fact that their trauma will instead leave them a shattered family is just sad.

i still cling to the vague hope that charles will step down after not too long (maybe a decade?) citing "a need to modernise the monarchy" or some such

but i think he'll end up sticking it out to the end (he waited this long etc) by which time william and harry will be in their 60s and the saga continues
