If you're too anxious to say thank you for a gift, don't sign up in the first place! Just treat somebody! (I hate writing requests, so mostly I just treat.)

IME, people who don't have their shit together enough to say thank you for a gift fic usually don't have their shit together enough to write one, either. I say this as someone who quite frequently doesn't have their shit together! Sometimes you get fooled by your own wishful thinking about what you might be capable of, such as writing a decent fanfic to someone else's prompt/wishlist and turning it in on time, because you want to be that person and have fun in that exchange. But you're not always being realistic about your own limitations and what you'll be able to deliver. So I get it... but I have always delivered. I try to be honest with myself about what I've got the resources to do, and not to bullshit myself just because I wish I was doing better than I am.
