Though really, if a person struggles with basic interactions like this or guilt/anxiety to the point where they're not going to be able to fully participate in something like this, they shouldn't sign up. Yeah, it sucks. But it's not fair to others when people join exchanges and then fail to deliver on their part, whether it's writing a fic or thanking their author. Sit this one out, work on yourself, and join in when you're able to do so.

Yes, generally, if you know you're the type who doesn't deliver (be it gift or thanks), then it's better to not participate. But sometimes you join with good intentions and even a good track record of delivering, and life punches you in the ass.

Again, none of that is an excuse. I'm just saying, it isn't always as simple as knowing beforehand.

Of course, I did stay away from exchanges until I trusted myself again.
