I think that what fanfic is best for is finding some mood or some dynamic, especially a shipping dynamic, and then just hammering on it as hard as possible and going into insane detail with it and doing as much with that dynamic as humanly possible.

So I like fanfics that really drill down into the relationship between characters that I ship, and portrays their interactions in exhaustive detail. That spends thousands of words on them getting together or yearning or being cute, or whatever, with no restraint at all.
