I mean you definitely shouldn't feel like you have to watch it or like it. With that said, IMO it's nothing like GoT, nor is it grimdark or nihilistic. That just seems like a total mischaracterization of the series as a whole, to me.

Personally, despite having found Rogue One a very good war movie, I wasn't particularly interested in watching Andor, given that we know how the character's story ends, and also given that my interest in Star Wars properties (and D+ properties more generally) has been tepid-verging-on-cold lately. However, a couple of YT reviewers whose taste I generally vibe with listed it among their best shows of 2022, and said it was doing something new within the greater universe of Star Wars properties, so I gave it a try, and yes, yep, I agree with them; it's different and it's excellent. It's incisive, it's complex, it's tender, it's weighty and challenging but never preachy, and the writing, directing, and acting are all extremely solid.
